The Purpose of the RMFA as a 501-c3 non-profit organization is: the development of professional farriers through continuing education and association; education of the public and in particular the horse owner as to the quality of care and service they should receive; to assist newer farriers in developing their skills in the industry; to provide a forum to express ideas, policies, and procedures in line with the standards of the organization; through cooperation with related associations, groups, councils, and boards, to further the best interests of the equine industry. This association has been organized for strictly educational purposes.

Shoeing Sport Horses for Modern Footing

Mike WhartonMike Wharton, CJF of Wellington FL has been shoeing horses for 44 years. He started his apprenticeship after serving in the USMC. Mike has shod many disciplines over the years including Western Pleasure, Reining, Cutting and Dressage. He now concentrates on Hunter & Jumper and has been shoeing on the A Circuit since 2001. Mike runs a multiple farrier practice between Florida and Pennsylvania.

Mike is a member of the American Association of Professional Farriers and the World Championship Blacksmiths. He was a former chairman of the APF Mentor Mentee Committee. Mike is a strong advocate in all areas of mentoring.

Earlier this year Mike had the privilege of working the 2017 World Cup in Omaha with Head Farrier - Jason Critton, CJF, TE of Colorado. Join us to hear Mike discuss the mechanics for shoeing in synthetic footing and maintaining the horse’s feet for the show ring.

Dr. French is a 5th generation Colorado native and grew up in Fort Collins. He started riding as a small child in both English and Western disciplines. After high school, he worked on guest ranches during summers and pursued a bachelor’s degree in Equine Science at Colorado State University.

While at Colorado State University, Dr. French competed on the horse judging team, was a teacher’s assistant for packing and outfitting, and completed research in Equine Reproduction. Dr. French was admitted to Colorado State University’s Veterinary School where his passion for the horse was furthered. After veterinary school, Dr. French completed his internship at Littleton Equine Medical Center, rotating through surgery, emergency and field services.

Dr. French has been an Associate Veterinarian with LEqMC since 2012. He has completed further certification in Veterinary Medical Acupuncture and Veterinary Chiropractic. Dr. French enjoys using integrative therapies on a daily basis. Dr. French has started a series of advanced lameness courses including ultrasound for enhanced diagnostic imaging. His goal is to help the equine athlete reach their full potential.

Dr. French and his wife, Dr. Dietz enjoy spending their free time together along with their horses and dog Jasper. He loves spending time outdoors in the beauty of Colorado – preferably on horseback.
