The Purpose of the RMFA as a 501-c3 non-profit organization is: the development of professional farriers through continuing education and association; education of the public and in particular the horse owner as to the quality of care and service they should receive; to assist newer farriers in developing their skills in the industry; to provide a forum to express ideas, policies, and procedures in line with the standards of the organization; through cooperation with related associations, groups, councils, and boards, to further the best interests of the equine industry. This association has been organized for strictly educational purposes.

Mike Wharton, CJF of Wellington FL has been shoeing horses for 44 years. He started his apprenticeship after serving in the USMC. Mike has shod many disciplines over the years including Western Pleasure, Reining, Cutting and Dressage. He now concentrates on Hunter & Jumper and has been shoeing on the A Circuit since 2001. Mike runs a multiple farrier practice between Florida and Pennsylvania. Mike is a member of the American Association of Professional Farriers and the World Championship Blacksmiths. He was a former chairman of the APF Mentor Mentee Committee. Mike is a strong advocate in all areas of mentoring. Earlier this year Mike had the privilege of working the 2017 World Cup in Omaha with Head Farrier - Jason Critton, CJF, TE of Colorado. Join us to hear Mike discuss the mechanics for shoeing in synthetic footing and maintaining the horse’s feet for the show ring.
